About Us
What's in a name? Will James designed the original Rubberchucker as a 42" synthetic skip-bait to imitate a 16-18 pound shortbill spearfish. Known as a favorite food source of XXXL blue marlin, shortbill spearfish are locally known as "chuckers" in Hawaii.
Will designed and fabricated the original Rubberchucker bait with feedback from top Kona captains Bryan Toney, Kevin Hibbard and Jason Holtz. Targeting the world-record 2,000 pound marlin the Rubberchucker featured a vacuum-bagged carbon fiber and G10 core designed to control torsional flex which was then over-molded with soft, flexible polyurethane foam and rigged with double 12/0 hooks on 1,000 pound test leader. Combining advanced computational design with organic NURBS modeling techniques the Rubberchucker was well ahead of its time.

Since the release of the original Rubberchucker Will has designed lures and terminal tackle for a number of leading saltwater brands.
Will is still designing lures today for everything from Blue-Marlin to Largemouth Bass, White Perch and Crappie. Regardless of the target-species the fundamentals of lure-design remain the same.....baits must be the right size and profile to elicit a strike and must be designed in such a way as to maximize hook exposure and penetration on the bite.
Rubberchucker Bait Molds was conceived as a way to explore modern automated manufacturing techniques while continuing to design innovative lures and lure-molds that aren't available from other manufacturers.
